This session was a key part of the ongoing implementation of our 2023-2028 Strategy. The workshop with operators on the Gambling Authority’s five-year strategy for Excessive Gambling Prevention and Rehabilitation focused on aligning industry stakeholders with a shared vision of promoting responsible gambling and minimising harm. It emphasized the Authority’s mandate to develop and implement evidence-based programmes that prevent addictive gambling behaviors while strengthening rehabilitation and support systems for affected individuals, including counselling and self-exclusion initiatives. Operators were engaged on their regulatory responsibilities, such as implementing player protection measures, raising awareness, and contributing to prevention programmes, in line with the broader strategy guided by the Excessive Gambling Prevention and Rehabilitation Committee. The session also highlighted the importance of research, data-driven interventions, and collaboration between regulators and operators to address risk factors, protect vulnerable groups, and ensure a sustainable, socially responsible gambling environment in Botswana.
