Thanks to the The British Racing School for having me to speak to its Racing Industry course earlier this week about racing and the media. The short version: racing's audience is under pressure and we can't just expect younger fans to show up - we have to go find them. Three things that matter: Fix the product. Quality, competitive action + actual innovation. F1 & the Hundred are the classic examples, but the Everest and Dublin Racing Festival show it can be done in this sport too. Tell better stories. Audiences want behind-the-scenes and real emotion - Frankie's bankruptcy, Constitution Hill falling, gambles, defeats, conflict. Racing has extraordinary human stories that resonate widely. Less message control, more mess. Go where the audience is. TikTok, YouTube, short-form, shareable. Young people spend 2 hours a day on TikTok and 20 minutes on live TV. Find them where they are or don't find them at all. This isn't just LinkedIn concept stuff - we're investing in this vision at the Racing Post, with new roles across our video, social and digital teams, plus a new transformation support function.
